A Brief History of Sun 'n Snow Ski Shop
Sun 'n Snow Ski Shop was founded by Jim and Gwen Wickham in 1952. Jim was
a true skiing pioneer, traveling north to Caberfae and Boyne Mountain and west to Sun
Valley in the 1940's. At that time he became a ski instructor. By the early
1950's it was clear to Jim that his students needed quality equipment in order
to reach their potential as skiers. Jim opened the ski shop in the office of
the Sun 'n Snow Motel in Cadillac. From 1952 to 1976 Jim taught thousands of
people to ski, and sold most of them some equipment. In addition to running the
shop and teaching, Jim was a sales representative for several ski clothing
manufacturers. Jim was a PSIA (Professional Ski Instructor's Association) Examiner
and co-author of several ski instruction manuals. Cancer took Jim's life in 1976,
but his legacy lives on. His wife, Gwen, guided the store until her death in 1988.
At that time, Jim and Gwen's children, Cheri and Pat Wickham assumed control of the
store and their father's legacy.
Jim's commitment to excellence continues in each
of Sun 'n Snow's employees.
